Accessibility and Section 508 Requirements

The U.S. Department of State is committed to making its Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) accessible to individuals with disabilities by meeting or exceeding the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. 794d). Section 508 requires agencies, during the procurement, development, maintenance, or use phases of ICT, to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to and use of ICT information and data comparable to the access and use afforded to individuals without disabilities (i.e., “ICT accessibility”), unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency. The Section 508 standards are the technical requirements and criteria used to measure ICT accessibility conformance within this law. Additional information on Section 508 can be found at the websites for the U.S. Access Board, the General Services Administration, and the U.S. Department of State.

The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) is committed to ensuring its Annual Briefing (AB) is fully compliant with Section 508 requirements. The AB virtual platform has been verified as 508 compliant. OSAC also will provide closed captioning for all recorded content posted to its site and will maintain transcripts of these events. Participants should request any additional special accommodations they require for the Annual Briefing during registration, or they may contact us directly at OSACPrograms@state.gov.
